Our school

Portage Leadership Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Kindergarten (Early Entry) through 5th grade in Ravenna, Ohio. The school opens in August 2026, offering Portage County families a new option built around leadership, character, and a small building where every teacher knows every student. The school's model integrates leadership skills into daily instruction. Students don't just learn reading and math; they learn to take responsibility, solve problems with peers, and build the habits that carry them through middle school, high school, and beyond. Social-emotional learning is part of the school culture from Day 1, with daily routines focused on relationship-building, self-regulation, and respect. Kindergarten enrollment is open to students who turn 5 by December 31, with early entrance available for those who qualify. Class sizes are small by design, giving teachers the ability to see each child clearly and adjust instruction based on where he or she actually is, not where the grade-level average says he or she should be. Service learning and mentorship programs connect students to their community. Students practice leadership through real actions, not worksheets about leadership. Support services include academic tutoring and intervention, counseling for social and emotional needs, free breakfast and lunch for every student, and bus transportation based on district eligibility guidelines. There is no tuition, no application fee, and no cost to families. Portage Leadership Academy is located at 1071 Jones Ave, Ravenna, OH 44266. You can reach the school by phone at (330) 965-9776.
